The season finished in a frustrating manner for Hatfield town 1st XI. Victories over fellow strugglers Rossington and Old Sharlston would have seen them safe before facing League Champions Fairburn. Things started well when they proved far too string for neighbours Rossington. An aggressive 64 from Andy Cutts saw Town reach 145 before Kev Marshall 5-26 and Shehzad Hussain 3-25 tore through the Rossington batting to see them all out for just 58 runs. They then travelled to Sharlston in good spirits and had the hosts 23-5 with Marshall 4-8 in the wickets again when rain delayed the game and the umpires called a controversial halt to proceedings with Town frustrated in their efforts to secure the full points and meant an unlikely win away at Fairburn on the final day of the season was now required. Despite 3 wickets apiece for Kev Marshall and Ellis Pattison Fairburn proved far too strong and won convincingly.

Despite the 1st XI relegation there have been plenty of positives for the season, Kev Marshall finished top of the leagues bowling averages and the team reached their first ever cup final. The 2nd XI finished comfortably in mid- table in their first season in Division 4 and were able to field several juniors during the season. With all the junior sides competing well in their age groups the future on the field looks positive and with the ‘Friday Family Evenings’ proving even more popular this year we have lots to look forward to as a club.

  • Focus during the close season will be on progressing plans for a new pavilion and hopefully obtaining the planning permission required so that we can then look to secure the additional funding needed to turn the plans into reality. We will be holding a fundraising Sports Dinner at the Hatfields on the 25th November compere will be ex-Rovers favourite John Stiles with guest speaker John Beresford the former ‘Keegan era’ Newcastle fullback plus a comedian the evening is sure to be enjoyable.
